eXch Cryptocurrency Exchange Review

eXch is an anonymous cryptocurrency exchange. It requires no KYC (Know Your Customer) nor the creation of an account. Whilst there are plenty of crypto exchanges out there offering a similar service, only a small handful are available for use via the Tor network, which provides uses with maximum protection. So that leaves the question, is eXch worth using, and can you trust it with your funds?

First things to know about eXch

There's no fancy bells or whistles on eXch in terms of the appearance. Not so much as a mascot! But in terms of the core features and functionality, everything is presented right in front of you on a single page. You simply enter in the currency you have, the currency you want, the amount you wish to exchange, and a refund address. You can even skip the amount if you like, since the system will automatically adjust to whatever you send. It's useful to check the rate before committing to an exchange though so you can ensure you're happy with it.

In the example above you'll see we opted to convert some Bitcoin to Litecoin at a dynamic rate. This gives me a conversion rate of 0.5%, although it can fluctuate higher if crypto prices change before the transaction is complete. In this case that would mean before 1 confirmation on the Bitcoin blockchain, which is typically around 10 minutes.

If you want added piece of mind, particularly during times of heavy cryptocurrency volatility, you can opt for the 1% flat rate, which guarantees your rate. Either way, these are some of the lowest fees available on any exchange, comparable only to a small number of sites suich as FixedFloat which have been known to periodically freeze funds and request customer information. Also, FixedFloat is technically not permitted for residents of the United States (a little known fact hidden in their terms of service). eXch meanwhile explicitly has no location restrictions. In fact, since they don't log your IP, they have no idea where you are from. Of course, when using Tor, your location is hidden anyway.

The exchange process

We went ahead and carried out an exchange on the platform, swapping some Bitcoin for Litecoin. We opted for the dynamic rate of 0.5% since prices were quite stable at the time according to CoinMarketCap. After entering all the necessary information and clicking 'Exchange', this is the screen we were presented with:

Here it told us exactly how much to send (based upon the information we'd provided), how much we could expect to receive, and the wallet address to send the funds to. So we went ahead and transferred the Bitcoin. Within 1 minute the 'awaiting input' screen had shown that a transaction was pending (try refreshing if you don't see it within a minute or two).

Around 8 minutes later our Bitcoin transaction reached 1 confirmation and roughly 1 minute after that, the Litecoin landed in our wallet. The final fee was almost exactly the 0.5% quoted, with the small difference likely being due to the transaction fee of a few cents plus any slightly fluctation. Certainly well under 1%, so our choice of dynamic rate was clearly the right option on this ocassion.

Final thoughts on eXch

I found the process of using eXch to be a smooth one from start to finish. The entire transaction took around 10 minutes - less than the amount of time it would take to even register on some exchanges. It's honestly hard to come up with any drawbacks. There's clear contact information available (web form, email and a forum) should you run into any issues, so everything looks solid on the customer support front. The fees are exactly as advertised and are some of the lowest I've come across. It gets the thumbs up from me!
